My Approach
Some photographers will tell you not to worry about posing — just play with your kids, and they'll capture the candid moments as they happen. That's not what I do.
I believe there's real value in a portrait where everyone is looking at the camera, smiling, and truly there — together. It's not always easy, especially with children, but creating that perfect, connected moment is one of the things I do best. I carefully arrange each family so the composition feels balanced and every person feels connected, guiding you through it with patience and direction until we get the shot — the one that looks like it belongs on your wall, not just in your camera roll.
That said, small children set the pace, not the schedule. I'm quick to notice when it's time to let go of the plan for a moment and follow their lead — so alongside those perfectly composed portraits, you'll also end up with the beautiful in-between moments: little ones running through the grass, picking flowers, or snuggled into a parent's arms. The best sessions have both.
Because here's the thing: fifty years from now, your grandchildren won't be looking for a casual snapshot. They'll want to see your family, together, looking back at them — the way portraits have always been treasured, generation after generation. That timeless, everyone's-looking-and-smiling portrait isn't old-fashioned. It's the kind of photograph that becomes a family heirloom.
